Society and Human Rights

This course provides an introduction to the field of human rights and its central concepts, theories, and institutions. Students will examine the historical and philosophical foundations of human rights, the development of international human rights law, and contemporary human rights challenges facing individuals and communities around the world. Students will discuss the ethical, political, and sociological dimensions of human rights advocacy and learn how they have been promoted globally. The course will cover topics such as civil and political rights, economic and social rights, minority rights, and the rights of women, children, and refugees.
